TSDSI hosted oneM2M Technical Plenary (TP) meeting # 31, from 18th to 22nd September, at Courtyard by Marriott ORR hotel at Bengaluru, India. oneM2M is a global standards development organization working in IoT (Internet of Things) and M2M (Machine to Machine communications) space. The purpose and goal of oneM2M is to develop technical specifications which address the need for a common M2M Service Layer that can be readily embedded within various hardware and software, and relied upon to connect the myriad of devices in the field with M2M application servers worldwide. A critical objective of oneM2M is to attract and actively involve organizations from M2M-related business domains such as: telematics and intelligent transportation, healthcare, utilities, industrial automation, smart homes, etc.
Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (abbreviation TSDSI) is India’s telecom Standards Development Organization (SDO). Established as a Society in 2014, TSDSI aims to evolve as a Standardisation Society in India in the field of Telecom and electronic products and services, etc., consistent with national policies and programmes; to create a platform to synergise the efforts of R&D centres, manufacturers, service providers, academic institutions, users, etc., addressing the specificity of the Indian environment ; to interact proactively and actively participate in international standards development organisations and forums; to take steps to promote indigenous standards to be adopted as global standards.
The oneM2M TP meetings are spread over 5 working days and have intense working sessions running in parallel to maximise the output. While TP is only for the members, oneM2M has started a tradition of keeping a day reserved as Industry Day for interaction with the local industry. Thus, Wednesday 20th September was observed as the Industry Day. TSDSI invited Indian stake holders in IoT and M2M space to share their views with the TP delegates and experts. Experts from India, from academia, industry and Government, and abroad made presentations on a variety of related topics. Two panel discussions allowed audience to hear experts’ views on IoT and M2M, the value proposition and challenges of inter-operability, testing and collaborative working. C-DOT, a member of TSDSI and oneM2M, exhibited its oneM2M based services and solutions. The Industry Day was supported by India-EU Cooperation on ICT-Related Standardisation, Policy and Legislation project as an exclusive Gold Sponsor.
